To act and reduce, we need to know what we are dealing with. This starts by collecting data on direct and indirect emissions from our business activities – from electricity at our headquarters to the farms growing our cotton. For this process, we have partnered up with One Carbon World.

We are measuring our emissions from:

SCOPE 1 – Our direct emissions within our company (e.g. office and showrooms)

SCOPE 2 – Our indirect emissions within our company (e.g. electricity)

SCOPE 3 – Our indirect emissions from outside the company (e.g. manufacturing, materials, transportation, and business travel.

REDUCE

As part of our pledge to the UN's Climate Neutral Now Initiative, we are dedicated to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050. Our target is to reduce emissions by 5% each year and 50% by 2030. This is known as a Science-Based Target that ensures reductions are efficient enough to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1,5°C.

ACT

We focus on long-term actions to reduce our main areas of emissions; our material use and transportation. All while working with immediate actions to reduce emissions from our headquarters and showrooms.

IN OUR HEADQUARTERS AND SHOWROOMS:

We have switched to renewable energy

We are switching to LED lighting

We are switching to low-impact office supplies in daily operations

We are switching to electric company vehicles

IN AREAS OF PRIMARY EMISSIONS FROM OUR SUPPLY CHAIN AND LOGISTICS:

We are switching to materials with lower emissions

We are optimizing packaging to reduce emissions from transportation

We are reducing our emissions from air freight

CONTRIBUTE

It is impossible to produce garments without emitting carbon, no matter how much it has been improved. For the emissions we cannot reduce, we contribute or offset an equal amount.

Offsetting is the term used for the financial support we make to projects that save or reduce the same number of emissions we have not been able to reduce.

Simply put, for 1 ton of CO2e we emit, we make an equal payment to financially support a project that saves or reduces the same amount of CO2e.

The reality is that the carbon has been emitted no matter how much you pay, and it can take years before the projects can compensate for the damage done.

Even though throwing money after the problem is not the ideal solution, we see it as taxing ourselves for the emissions we could not reduce. It is an imperfect solution, but a solution nonetheless, and we believe it to be better to do something imperfectly than nothing at all.

La Pitanga is a reforestation project in Uruguay that we contribute to. By 2021, this project has planted an estimated 4,5 million trees and retired approximately 9 million tons of CO2.
